Silver Steppers Triumph at Bognor Dance Festival

You are never too old to dance for joy or so say ‘The Silver Steppers’ who recently entered the Bognor Regis Dance Festival. Not only did they win their section, they gained 99 marks and were awarded the trophy for the highest mark of the entire 5-day festival.

The Silver Steppers musical theatre dance class has been running for five and a half years and is part of Sarah Moore Dance’s classes for adults. The group who dance at the Fishbourne Centre is made up of 14 ladies aged between 60 and 95, the oldest being Jean, who only started dancing in her 80s! They have vastly different experience including an ex West-End professional, a couple of ex dance teachers and those who only started dancing in retirement. Many of them do ballet and tap as well as musical theatre, and their main aim is to ‘Dance For Joy’.

This was their 5th time entering a festival and they performed a theatre dance routine ‘Gotta Get a Gimmick’ which included live trumpet from Coral (second only to Jean in age at 89) and stellar performances from all. The adjudicator, Tanya Allen, thought that Jean might be the oldest entrant in a festival, and certainly the oldest she had ever adjudicated!

The Silver Steppers were also featured on South Today recently – to see them in action click here.

Sarah says, “It is wonderful to see the ladies grow in confidence, especially in their performance.”

You are never too old to dance Sarah’s adult dance classes give everyone the opportunity to dance for joy in Chichester, Southsea and Online. Classes are also coming soon to Southampton.
