The New Park Arts Festival is a series of workshops and classes for adults, held throughout the summer to celebrate the joy of dance, movement, and music.

This year’s program is being held every Wednesday 1.00 – 3.30pm and every Friday 10.00am – 12:30pm from 2nd August – 1st September.

Each day offers a double session with tea/coffee and cake in the middle. It is possible to book for a single session or double session each day, but all will include the coffee and cake!

Our best value ticket is the ‘Full Festival Ticket.’ This enables you to attend all of the sessions.

Wednesday 2nd August with Elly Bolter
1.00 – 2.00pm Contemporary Class
This class is suitable for all levels and will begin with a thorough warm up to encourage flexibility, flow and ease of movement. The class will continue with technical exercises and movement phrases, some floor work may be included. Soft dance shoes or bare feet are recommended.

2:30 – 3:30pm Creative Contemporary
In the creative session, dancers will use improvisation to develop small group work from creative tasks. All abilities are welcome. Soft dance shoes or bare feet are recommended.

Friday 4th August with Clare Ellams
10.00 – 11.00am Fitsteps
Fitsteps is a dance-based fitness programme developed by Strictly Come Dancing Professionals. It combines the graceful steps of the ballroom with the up-tempo steps of the Latin Dances to give you a full body workout. No dance experience is necessary & no partner is required. Come along and give it a go. Who knew getting fit could be so much fun! Trainers or soft dance shoes are recommended.

11.30 – 12.30pm Line Dancing
Join Clare for a Line Dancing class suitable for all ages and abilities, where you can practice and learn steps of popular dances from the Electric slide, Cow girl twist to the Red Hot Salsa and lots more! Trainers or soft dance shoes are recommended.

Wednesday 9th August with Sarah Moore
1.00 – 2.00pm Sound of Music 1
Join Sarah for a fun hour of The Sound of Music, Chichester Festival Theatre’s big musical of the season! After a short warm up we will learn a dance to a medley of How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? My Favourite Things and The Lonely Goatherd. Suitable for all ages and abilities, please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

2.30 – 3.30pm Sound of Music 2
Join Sarah for a fun hour of The Sound of Music. After a short warm up we will learn a dance to a medley of Do-Re-Mi, I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen and So Long Farewell. Suitable for all ages and abilities, please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

Friday 11th August with Jess Corell
10.00 – 11.00am Ballet Class
Join Jess for a ballet class suitable for those with ballet experience (not suitable for complete beginners). Starting with barre-work, the class will then progress to the centre covering Port de Bras, Adage and Allegro. Please wear ballet shoes or soft dance shoes.

11.30 – 12.30pm Learn a Ballet Dance
Join Jess to learn her own ballet choreography. Drawing on steps featured in the earlier ballet class and including patterns and pictures, dancers will enjoy an hour of making a beautiful dance. Some knowledge of ballet is needed, please wear ballet shoes or soft dance shoes.

Wednesday 16th August with Madison Burgess
1.00 – 2.00pm Contemporary Class
Join Madison for a contemporary class focussing on phrases loosely based on both Limon and Release technique. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Please wear soft dance shoes or bare feet.

2.30 – 3.30pm Creative Contemporary
Dancers will spend this workshop working through a few creative tasks to allow for unique and individual creative decisions to be made, as well re-shaping some rep from a choreographic work by Madison Burgess. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Please wear soft dance shoes or bare feet.

Friday 18th August with Jess Corell
10.00 – 11.00am Musical Theatre Dance and Singing
We are excited to bring to you the opportunity to sing and dance at the same time! After a physical and vocal warm up, Jess will guide you through a routine featuring both singing and dancing to ‘One Short Day’ from the musical Wicked. The only requirement is enthusiasm! Suitable for all ages and abilities. Please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

11.30 – 12.30 Musical Theatre Dance
Come for your ‘Happy Hour.’ The workshop will start with a warm-up and feature a fun Musical Theatre routine to Cabaret (no singing for this one)! No experience necessary, please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

Wednesday 23rd August with Sarah Moore
1.00 – 2.00pm Musical Theatre Dance
Join Sarah to dance to the wonderful up-beat song ‘Dancing Fool’ from Copacabana. We will first warm up and then learn a fun routine which guarantees you will go home with a smile on your face and a spring in your step! No experience necessary, please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

2.30 – 3.30pm Tap
Join Sarah to tap your troubles away! Suitable for all who have some knowledge of tap (not complete beginners). We will learn a routine to the iconic ‘ONE’ from chorus line. We will also be using hats (which will be provided or you are welcome to bring your own)! Please wear tap shoes.

Friday 25th August with Sarah Moore
10.00 – 11.00am Pulse Raisers
After a short warm up we will dance as many pulse raisers as we can in one hour. These are small phrases of dance which are repeated for the entirety of the song. We will feature songs such as Hot Hot Hot, Wake me Up before you Go Go, I’m Better When I’m Dancing, Let’s Get Loud and more! No experience necessary, please wear trainers.

11.30 – 12.30pm Mellow Moves
After a short warm up we will learn a routine to the wonderful Hello Dolly! It is a feel-good song which will get your feet moving and your heart singing! No experience necessary, please wear soft dance shoes or trainers.

Wednesday 30th August with Jess Corell
1.00 – 2.00pm Tap
Join Jess for a tap routine to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, suitable for anyone who has knowledge of tap (not suitable for complete beginners). Please wear tap shoes.

2.30 – 3.30pm Musical Theatre Dance
Join Jess for a wonderful workshop to learn a routine to ‘Show People’ from the musical ‘Curtains.’ After a short warm up, Jess will teach you a routine that is guaranteed to make you smile! Suitable for all ages and abilities, please wear trainers or soft dance shoes.

Friday 1st September with Katie Jerwood
10.00 – 11.00am Barre Fitness
Barre Fitness is an exercise regime inspired by elements of ballet, yoga and Pilates. Barre is a fantastic way to build muscle strength and tone, to develop balance and joint mobility and all over flexibility. It is a low impact class which often uses equipment such as Pilates balls and resistance bands. Suitable for all abilities, no previous experience required. Please wear soft dance shoes or socks. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you.

11.30 – 12.30pm Pilates
Pilates classes offer multiple benefits for the mind and body including, building muscle strength, flexibility, increasing breathing capacity, improving posture and body awareness as well as contributing to overall quality of life. An excellent remedy from aches and pains, rehabilitation from injury, stress management and an aid to weight loss. Suitable for all abilities, no previous experience required. Please wear soft dance shoes or socks. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it with you.
